The aim of the study is to reflect upon the methodological challenges faced during the preparation of two monographs from a series on school education abroad, namely on the French and Chinese systems of school education. Both monographs were based on extensive desk research using various information sources and on primary data collected through interviews with educational stakeholders in the respective countries.
The chapter describes difficulties faced by the authors when working with information sources (unavailability of sources, language barriers, credibility of information, introducing new Czech terminology) and while collecting data in the field (inaccessibility of schools, advantages and disadvantages of interviews in second languages and with interpreters).
