Abstract
The article focuses on the representation of historical paradoxes in the novel An Cléireach by Darach Ó Scolaí, and specifically on the role of stories about military exploits in Central Europe. It analyses the subtle ways in which the novel casts doubt on religious ideologies of the 17th century.
