Abstract

The article discusses the monograph "Gaelic in Scotland: Policies, Movements, Ideologies by Wilson McLeod" (Edinburgh University Press, 2020, 448 pp.), a groundbreaking publication in the field of Gaelic and Scottish studies which outlines the social and political history of the language and its importance for the Scottish national movement. The essay analyses its importance for the subject and also relevance for contemporary debates surrounding Scottish independence, European integration, and promotion of minoritized languages.
