Abused and neglected child in general practitioner's surgery for children and adolescents: recommendations for practice

Publication

Abstract

Early detection of a child at risk is still complicated in Czech practice, therefore the publication aims to offer basic practical information that general practitioners for children and adolescents (hereinafter "GP") can use in everyday practice. The creation of the publication was preceded by qualitative research that identified the needs of GP in this area and the main obstacles that in practice make it difficult to identify children at risk in time.

The individual chapters contain overviews of the symptoms of abuse and neglect, a brief insight into the legislative framework, and practical recommendations for individual steps in fulfilling the statutory reporting obligation. Attention is also paid to the cooperation of other possible entities that can participate in the field of protection of children at risk.

In the care system for vulnerable children, GP has a unique opportunity to recognize a vulnerable child in time and initiate quick help. The role of PDDL is irreplaceable in the case of early detection, as they are often the only ones who can help the child in the case of children under 6 years of age.

This recommendation was issued by Sirius, o.p.s. in cooperation with the Professional Society of Pediatric Practitioners ČLS JEP and the Association of Practitioners for Children and Adolescents of the Czech Republic. ISBN 978-80-906468-5-8.

This publication was also issued in the form of the Methodological measure of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic - Procedure of general practitioners for children and adolescents in case of suspicion of an abused and neglected child (CAN syndrome).
