Abstrakt
We will describe changes in 'education in nature' programmes and in using turistika activities for learning, education and recreation in the Czech Republic over the last 30 years. Significant changes have appeared in formal education at all levels, from nursery schools through to universities and in non-formal organisations developing 'education in nature' programmes and turistika activities. Charles University's Faculty of Physical Education and Sport has been at the forefront of developing tertiary connections between turistika traditions, výchova v přírodě (education in nature) programmes, and new trends abroad.
Historically formal education and non-formal education have developed rather separately in the Czech Republic. Today we can find examples overlapping these areas. Czech policy makers and people from other scientific/non-scientific areas (medicine, economics, etc.) have started to realize that outdoor experiential learning activities and adventure opportunities should play an important role in the education of young people. Czech non-formal organisations have a long history of developing such 'education in nature' programmes for young people. Therefore, they could be helpful with the inclusion of more of these activities and opportunities for children and youth in formal education.
