A Wave of Grass: The Anatomy of Love

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2022

Abstract

In her third collection, Tonn Teaspaigh and Danta ail (2022), Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh builds on the principles established in her previous work and breaks new ground at the same time. If Tonn Tespaigh is a study in contrasts, the new book manages to achieve a balance between Tost agus Allagar that were central in the previous book, and find an expression of the mystery of everyday life.

Like many women poets before her, Ní Ghearbhuigh refers to how difficult it is to be a mother and a poet at the same time. By focusing on the protective instinct of motherhood - and the inevitable burden it places on the environment - the whole planet becomes a home.

Through an ecological exploration of relationships on the border between the self and the other, the home and the world, this collection represents the anatomy of out and out love.
