Developing Diagnostic and Intervention Competence in the Preparatory Education of Future Kindergarten Teachers

Abstract

The presented paper deals with the diagnostic and intervention competence of students in the field of Pre-school and out-of-school pedagogy at the secondary school of education and students of the Bachelor's programme Teaching for kindergartens at the Faculty of Education. In order to obtain more information about the influence of pre-service education on the development of students' diagnostic and intervention competence, a research probe was conducted using an open-ended questionnaire to investigate how students perceive the contribution of their studies to the formation and further development of their diagnostic and intervention competence.

The results indicated a need to strengthen the development of diagnostic and intervention competencies during pre-service education. On the theoretical level, especially with regard to deepening the understanding of the basic concepts and meaning of diagnosis and intervention in preschool education, and on the practical level by providing more opportunities to observe diagnostic and intervention work of quality teachers in practice.
