Abstract
The book presents an overall picture of Aristotle's science of the living viewed mainly through the prism of procreation and ontogeny. The book comprises a Czech translation of the first book of Aristotle's treatise On the generation of animals (De generatione animalium), a Textual Supplement, i. e. thematically grouped selection of pasaages from Aristotle's other biological treatises, and explanations of some basic topics of Aristotle's biology (scientific methodology, theory of causality, classification of animals,...).
This section can also be read as an introduction to Aristotle's though through the lens of his science of the living.
