The "Nests" of the Aramaic Scribal Culture in the Late 9th - Early 7th Centuries BCE Levant: An Attempt at Identification

Abstract

The author defines three "nests" of the Aramaic scribal culture in the Iron Age Levant: Sam'al/Ya'udi, the environs of Aleppo, and Damascus - Hamath. He describes the scribal practices and their development from 9th to 7th century BCE.
