Love as an Analogy of the Holy Trinity: Platonic Elements in Augustine’s De trinitate VIII

Abstract

Love as the third element in Augustine's trinity of the lover, beloved, and love itself (de trin. 8,10,14) finds its analogy in the Platonic Eros as a demonic force. Augustine's self-referential love is also mentioned by Plotinus, enn. 6,8,15,1.
