This monograph is the first methodological study in the field of Czech for foreigners on this interdisciplinary topic in the Czech Republic. Parts of the text were presented at Czech and international conferences during the writing of this book.
This monograph examines theatre pedagogy (MJT) which utilizes elements of theatre to achieve language-teaching objectives (i.e., the development of language skills and communication competency for foreigners learning Czech as a second language). This includes not only a presentation of the method and goals of MJT, but also a look at the history and contemporary state of similar methods.
Following the theoretical section are two surveys that confirm the effectiveness of the given method. The basic premise of MJT is learning by experience.
Foreigners get this experience through activities that are based on fiction and role play. The members of the group increase their language knowledge and practice their skills in the context of interpersonal relationships and common situations (for example, through practicing social-cultural principles and by maintaining linguistic etiquette).
