Speaking in the Textbook "Czech for Foreigners –Level A1 and A2"

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2018

Abstract

A fundamental problem faced by the authors of Czech language teaching materials for foreigners is how to process (especially at A levels according to the SERRJ) productive speaking skills, since the foreign student has "only" a limited repertoire of linguistic resources at these levels. The aim of this article is to approach the development of a systematic procedure for the processing of speaking activities, especially when working on activities for level A1. The article starts with a discussion of the speaking task in the textbook Czech for foreigners - level A1 and A2 by M.

Bocca Kestřánková, D. Štěpánková and K. Vodičková.

The article describes the target group of non-native speakers who this textbook is designed for. It also introduces the conception of the textbook and shows two main differencies between the A1, A2 textbook and the B1, B2 textbooks of the same name.

The specific approach to speaking exercises at A1 and A2 is outlined. We comment on the approach to speaking skills and speaking activities presented.
