This work is not only practical but also of great political importance. The provision of Czech to the deaf is often not given enough attention, even though the deaf are citizens of the Czech Republic.
If the deaf are not given sufficient access to education, i.e. if they are not encouraged to develop the ability to functionally read (and subsequently study) in Czech, the situation can be perceived as a lack of provision of quality education for a minority group of citizens. This was one of the many reasons why this comprehensive publication was produced, which includes, among other things, a chapter on the language skill of writing. The chapter "Czech language teaching for pupils with hearing loss" focuses on the possibilities of developing the writing skills of the Deaf learners who have written Czech as a second language because their first language is Czech Sign Language.
After introducing the theoretical background (e.g., subchapter Writing in the didactic process), the specifics related to the writing of texts by Deaf pupils are presented. The description of these specifics forms a key basis for future necessary analyses of the written expression of the Deaf pupils.
At the end of the chapter, a sample textbook of Czech for foreigners as well as the used activities are commented on, and modifications are suggested for their functional use in teaching Czech to Deaf learners.
