Faecal microbiota transplantation for first and second episodes of Clostridioides difficile infection

Abstrakt
Earlier is the leitmotif of a study reported in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology by Simon Baunwall and colleagues. High clinical efficacy and superiority of faecal microbiota transplantation was observed compared with the standard of care, vancomycin, administered for the first or second Clostridioides difficile infection episode, instead of after the recommended multiple recurrences.
Due to a significantly lower rate of resolution in the placebo group, the trial was terminated before the designated number of patients was enrolled.
