Abstract

Groin hernias are the most common type of ventral hernias. They occur in men mainly and the incidence is approximately three percents in the Czech Republic.

It is the reason why these operations are so frequent. Nowadays, the most popular types of surgery are tension-free procedures.

During these procedures we close the defect with prolene mesh. Surgeons have to be very careful not to damage the main nerves iliohypogastricus and ilioinguinalis, spermatic funniculus and internal organs especially during laparoscopic operations.

Other complications are seromas, hematomas, infection and of course, chronic pain in groin. The definition is a debilitating pain in groin affecting daily activities for the course of more than three months after the operation.

The prevention of chronic pain in groin is about a proper surgical approach and a use of analgesics in such a way that minimizes the dosage of opioids.
