Abstract
Opening the bodies of the dead for the purpose of examining them has always carried with it a certain mystery. Like many other medical procedures, dissection has gone through many stages over the centuries in terms of social acceptability - from outright rejection through the 'grey area' of limited suffering to a privileged position among the disciplines of medical science.
