Abstract
The publication deals with the teaching of probability and statistics. It presents the historical development of concepts associated with these disciplines, analyzes different interpretations of probability and related concepts, focuses on the possibilities of understanding and expressing chance and independence.
It tries to understand the problems which students and teachers meet in the educational process, and, based on the realized analysis, it suggests approaches that can help improve the situation.
