Severe bronchial asthma is frequently accompanied by obesity. There is probably a deeper pathophysiological relationship behind this epidemiological link, as suggested by plentiful data.
The article summarizes current knowledge on mechanisms linking these two conditions and focuses on the impact of obesily on severe asthma and the biomarkers that are used. Better understanding of the pathophysiological interaction between the two processes may lead to a more precise therapeutic approach to these difficult-to-treat patients and targeted interventions aimed at asthma control.
