Abstract

This article deals with František Ladislav Čelakovský as the founder of Czech Baltic Studies.

The focus is on Čelakovský's folklore interests as well as his translation and philological activities, all related to the inception of Czech Baltic Studies. Those activities are illustrated on the example of Flower Epigram Poems, Lithuanian Folk Songs and The Handwritten Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language. The article introduces Čelakovský's activities in a comprehensive context.
