Abstract

The text highlights the importance of Max and Moritz by Wilhelm Busch and Ježipetr by Heinrich Hoffmann as still relevant classic works of 19th century children's literature standing on the borderline between lyric and epic. It presents them as a crossing point between old and new literary genres and puts them in a broad literary context to show how these works have influenced children's literature in the 20th and 21st centuries.

An important part of the article is also a mapping of the history of translations of these works into Czech and an analysis of their protagonists.
