CHILDREN'S INJURIES CAUSED BY ELECTRIC SCOOTERS AND MOTORISED QUAD BIKES

Abstract

In recent years, we have increasingly witnessed serious injuries that occurred as a result of accidents while riding electric scooters or motorized quadricycles. Often the drivers of these means of transport are children. Their availability and attractiveness among young people, on the one hand, and the underestimation of the risks related to traffic and even the fundamental laws of physics, on the other hand, create numerous opportunities for the occurrence of various accidents.

And they often end tragically. Every year, several children's lives are unnecessarily wasted in the

Czech Republic alone, and dozens of children are seriously injured. At the same time, the main cause of this unhappy balance must be seen in the irresponsible attitude of adults who allowed children the experience of riding an electric scooter or a motorized four-wheeler. Most of them are not aware of the possible dangers, nor that they need a driving license to drive some types of electric scooters or motorized four-wheelers. In extreme cases, the trauma of the death or serious injury of one's own child can be compounded by the conviction of the parent for a negligent crime, if the court finds that the harm to the child's health was caused by a breach of the parent's duty to properly supervise the child.
