Paulo Freire's Critical Pedagogy for the 21st Century

Publication

Abstract

Paulo Freire (1921-1997) was an important Brazilian educator and philosopher whose legacy goes beyond time and country boundaries. Our symposium aims to celebrate what would be Freire's 100th birthday by promoting awareness about the urgency and need of Paulo Freire's practices nowadays in general and particularly in the Czech Republic.

Paulo Freire taught us that more than learning how to read words, we need to learn how to read the world. As we read the world as political beings who are aware of social inequalities, environmental and political situations, we can do something to change it.

During conference we will focus on the general introduction of Paulo Freire and his thoughts, adult education, the application of his principles by NGOs, the critical and decolonial practices in education, and the philosophical context of his pedagogical approach.
