Boundaries and Safety in Psychotherapy with a Psychotic Patient Using Methamphetamine - a Case Study

Abstract

Substance use in people with psychotic illness is up to three times more common than in the general population. In this case study, I describe work with a psychotic patient in early adulthood, where a fundamental aspect was the attempt to establish a therapeutic relationship.

The setting of boundaries and appropriate goals, which must be firm but not rigid, is key for building relationships in psychotherapy.
