In 2021 we commemorated the 500th anniversary of the birth of Philippe de Monte (1521-1603), who spent the last two decades of his life in Prague as maestro di capella to Emperor Rudolf II. This article reports on the two-day international symposium entitled Philippe de Monte at 500, organized by the Musica Rudolphina Research Centre, the Archbishopric of Prague, the Institute of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and the Association for Central European Cultural Studies under the auspices of His Eminence Dominik Cardinal Duka, Archbishop of Prague, and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Czech Music Fund.
