A prototype sling for a paretic limb

Publication

Abstract

The positioning sling for the paretic upper limb is intended for simple fixation of the paretic upper limb in the ideal position without the need to hang it over the neck area. It fixes the elbow joint and the wrist of the affected upper limb into a "pocket", which forms a support and ensures the ideal position of the limb by preventing damage to the muscles and joints of the upper limb. The sling consists of:

1. an elbow cuff for putting on the elbow of the paretic upper limb,

2. a detachable suspension cuff for storing the wrist of the paretic upper limb,

3. a system of velcro fasteners that allow choosing the appropriate length of the sling and suitable positioning of the paretic limb by placing the wrist in the suspension cuff,

4. an elastic band arranged in the longitudinal direction of the textile band between the elbow cuff and the suspension cuff for storing the wrist. The sling is put on by the patient himself, thus increasing the patient's self-care and quality of life during recovery.
