Kriegel: Soldier and Doctor of Communism

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |
2023

Abstract

Today, František Kriegel is known to the wider public only as the one who refused to sign the Moscow Protocol in August 1968. The life destinies of this communist, doctor and soldier on several fronts of the Second World War are, however, much more complicated and tragic, for example, due to his direct participation in the creation of the People's Militia in February 1948.

The author does not set out to resolve the dispute about Kriegel unequivocally, but he offers the context of life's vicissitudes , decisions and attitudes that repeatedly brought their bearers into trouble rather than political and social prominence.
