Abstract

The text summarizes the long and complex process of development of the unified German language, to which the personalities of the 17th and 18th centuries made a significant contribution. This period is defined at its beginning by the activity and work of J.

G. Schottel and at its end by the contribution of J.

Ch. Adelung.

These scientists contributed with their linguistic work to the concept of the unification of the German language in the sense of supra-regional intelligibility and objective differentiation of language expression, but also the social necessity of correct speaking and writing and cultured handling of the language according to the established rules.
