Abstract

The article commemorates the 100th anniversary of polarography, discovered in 1922 by the Czech chemist Jaroslav Heyrovský (1890-1967), and its importance for chemistry and far beyond its borders. The background, discovery, and development of polarography are summarized.

The legacy of Jaroslav Heyrovský remains thus alive and still has a positive impact on the quality of life of humanity. Moreover, it represents an important model and a moment of inspiration for the upcoming generations of scientists.
