Abstract

Authors Ivan Wernisch (1941) and Petr Borkovec (1970) are from two different generations. Neither of them writes poetry specifically for children or adults, but in the past decade their work has frequently been published by companies that specialise in books for children and adolescent readers.

Ivan Wernisch's poetry is remarkable for its experimentation with language down to its very core. This playful poet loves to mystify his readers and demolish conventional views of classical works.

Petr Borkovec began writing children's poetry much later, but he is already a very prolific author. He has published five collections of verse and his poetry has drawn wide attention from scholars.

This study analyses the two poets' unusual and inspiring work, providing examples of their poetry and the illustrations that accompany their collected works.
