Density in several physics ways

Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
2022

Abstract

The concept of density is often reduced to only one of its cases, to the average volumetric mass density, in physics education at lower and upper secondary schools. The paper provides a brief theoretical overview and four particular learning activities on the topic of density, which combine simple measurements with calculations and which have a practical context.

The activities concern determining whether a given thing is made of gold, determining the volumetric density of air, verifying the areal density of paper and determining the linear density of a rope.
