In this paper we intend to delve into the origins and reception of Karel Čapek's Továrna na absolutno (The Absolute at Large) (1922). This novel is a small, lesser-known gem of his literary oeuvre, in which are caricatured the various faults and virtues that Čapek attributes to human being, who is the cause of mankind's downfall and at the same time the only one who can save it.
