Abstrakt
The importance of studying the translations, dictionaries and other works of the Spanish missionaries is based not only in their translation practice. Although they did not leave any explicit theoretical description, several concepts important from our current perspective can be deduced from their work, as e. g. the problem of the sources of the work of translator / interpreter, institutional translation, intersemiotical translation, problem of gender, etc.
