The author describes the situation in the Czech Republic after February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine and thousands of Ukrainians, especially women with children and the elderly, fled to safety here. How the assistance centres functioned and how volunteer interpreters helped, how the lack of language and interpreter preparedness was manifested and what courses and seminars we (the Institute of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University) are planning to train a maximum of community and conference interpreters with Ukrainian and Czech languages.
