Abstract

The article deals with the historical experience of the Jews who fell either in Habsburg or Ottoman captivity during the Ottoman-Habsburg wars of the second half of the seventeenth century. It uses Jewish ego-documents, Jewish rabbinical and communal sources as well as non-Jewish archival material to portray the possible strategies and paths of Jewish individuals in the captivity and in its aftermath.
