Abstract

The paper focuses on the current situation in the sphere of the mutual reception of literary works as a part of the Czech-Slovak language relations. In the traditional dichotomy between "reading books in original" and "reading books in translation" enabled by mutual intelligibility of Czech and Slovak we can see markable strengthening of translating Slovak literature into Czech in last decades.

Besides sketching the picture of the current state of the Slovak-Czech literary translation the attention focuses also on the specific translantion competition from Slovak to Czech Dunaj na Vltavě, intended for various types of amateur translators, especially young people. The aim is to introduce this competition as a remarkable component of the complex intercultural situation and a specific way of cultural and language management interconnected with the wider process of Slovak-Czech literary translation.

An extinction of the competition promising existence after its nine-year duration is zoomed in the comparison with Colloquium of Young Linguists and its 30th aniversary understood as a result of the long term care for maintenance an important and valuable creative space.
