Abstract

Georg Adam II von Martinitz was envoy to the papal curia from 1695 to 1700. Much of his diplomatic mission was marked by disputes over the position of the Emperor's representative in the hierarchy of Roman diplomats and curial officials.

Together with his uncompromising defense of the emperor's claims, this led to intractable conflicts that eventually led to his dismissal.
