The paper presents the basic characteristics of reading a professional text -textbook- by students and one teacher. It also compares approaches to reading one's own text and a text that is followed by questions.
The aim of the pilot study, carried out on 12 pupils and dealing with one page of textbook text was to identify the basic approaches to reading, working with the accompanying visual material (pictures and graphs) and to identify the indicators that may indicate deeper cognitive processes involved in reading, including the influence of questions on reading the text.
