Abstract

Sepsis is one of the most common causes of death on intensive care units. Patients in sepsis are very heterogeneous group with inappropriate immune response to the presence of infection.

The result is the failure of vital functions that often leads to patient death. Rapid recognition of sepsis and its severity is important for timely delivery of effective therapy.

However, there is currently no gold standard for its diagno sis. Various laboratory tests for biomarkers of sepsis provide information on the presence or absence ofinfection in the body, and play an important role in sepsis recognition.

This article summarizes basic knowledge about biomarkers of sepsis diagnosis, evaluation of its severity.
