The findings of studies on the impact of coronavirus pandemic restrictions on study and mental health of university students open our contribution. Afterwards, we present our experience with distant teaching and counselling during the coronavirus pandemic.
Demand for counselling and the nature of problems before and during pandemic are compared. We present counselling strategies based on the principles of health promotion, cognitive behavioural therapy and Gestalt therapy applied in solving study and personal problems, managing stress and supporting healthy lifestyle, quitting smoking or tobacco use.
We l also mention our educational activities and collaboration with the Study Division and the Centre for Treatment of Tobacco Dependence in the Královské Vinohrady Teaching Hospital. The aim of those acitivites is to spread the information on counselling services among students, motivate them to use those services when needed and thus contribute to the prevention of academic failure and promotion of mental health and well-being in students.
