Like many linguistic elements in the German language, Ganz is polyfunctional: It can appear in attributive, substantive and adverbial functions, and can also be used as an intensity particle. As a preceding attribute (normal case) and in nounified usage, it is fully inflected; in some special cases as a prefix, as a suffix, in the adverbial function and in usage as an intensity particle, there is no inflection at all.

This connection form/function (in both directions) is particularly difficult for learners of German as a foreign language, since several considerations have to be made in the written and oral production in order to be able to use the linguistic element in a norm-compliant manner. It is shown here how the integration of corpora in language teaching can help to raise awareness of the polyfunctionality of the linguistic phenomenon.
