Listening comprehension as a key measure in the diagnosis of reading skills development of younger school-age pupils

Abstract

The contribution reflects current knowledge of reading skills and literacy difficulties development. With support from foreign and Czech data, it points to the need to include language skills and tools for their measurement in the theoretical framework and diagnostic process.

Specifically, the paper then focuses on the skill of listening comprehension and discusses the unique contribution of this skill in identifying reading difficulties and understanding their causes.
