Abstract
A book of the life stories of all women on the Swedish throne (sovereigns, queens, regents and wives of kings) from the beginning of the kingdom to the present day. It focuses on their family life, personal interests, and key events of the time.
It presents portraits of all the queens, since they played a much more active and interesting role than is traditionally attributed to them and thus deserve more attention than a few lines in encyclopaedias. Moreover, the authors share the view that behind every successful man is a woman.
In depicting the lives of queens, they focus on their political, cultural, and personal lives; they also describe their selection, marriage, and coronation; their roles as mothers, queen-widows, and, finally, their deaths and legacies.
