Abstract

How to deal with the structural economic changes brought about by the advent of general artificial intelligence? This paper analyses the Windfall Clause - a proposed private law mechanism to redistribute the enormous revenues associated with the invention of GAI. It is intended to persuade corporations developing GAI to contractually commit to distribute a portion of their revenues towards solving existing and future global problems if transformative AI solutions are developed.

In addition to introducing this proposal by the Oxford Centre for the Future of Humanity (FHI), the paper also discusses its legal nature and potential pitfalls.
