Abstract

In H. P.

Lovecraft's fiction can be found a new form of the sublime, which, although derived from the classical sublime of the eighteenth and first half of the nineteenth century, also takes into account later changes in the understanding of human situation in the universe. The experience of the sublime here is enabled by the awareness of the possibility of encountering the radically non-human nature of the cosmos and the ability to give imaginative expression to this experience.
