Abstract

The paper deals with some significant psycho-social aspects of quality of life in patients subjected to radical prostatectomy and underlines the importance of early rehabilitation for their return to normal life. The research part is focused at the comparison of patients with early and late rehabilitation treatment after radical prostatectomy.

The incontinence of urine before and after treatment, as well as erectal disfunction in both groups have been compared. In both observed groups the statistically significant difference after medical rehabilitation has been confirmed.

In early treated patients, the comparison of subjective improvement before and after treatment is statistically significant. When comparing the depression level in all groups (early and late treated and control group) significance difference between early and late treated has been confirmed at significance level p=0.01 and between late treated and control group at significance level p=0.05.

The statistically significant differences between the frequency of positive and negative emotions in all three groups have been confirmed at significance level p=0.01. Both the early rehabilitation and social and adequate mental support have important influence for patient, after the radical prostatectomy with regard to their life quality.

These factors influence both the objective troubles in patients (incontinence and erectile disfunction) and the mental states of depression, anxiety and thus their life quality of life.
