Traffic accident analysis tools for the Police of the Czech Republic

Publication

Abstract

The project goal was creation of advanced tools for analysis and visualization of data on road traffic accidents for use by the Headquarters of the Czech Traffic Police. The software allows the user to (a) identify acutely and chronically problematic sections in the road network, (b) analyze the causes of accidents, and (c) observe the development and causes of accidents according to the user-defined parameters (area, time, characteristics of vehicles and drivers).

The software, the code, and documentation are public. The software has two parts.

A non-interactive offline tool calculates the necessary metrics from the input data identifies the locations of frequent or dangerous accidents and prepares the documents needed for their interactive visualization. An interactive web application visualizes the precalculated data.
