Abstract

The chapter is about stereotypes, labeling and stigmatisation as barriers of understanding between people. It explains the functions of social networks and the importance of their quality for sufficient social support, both natural and institutional.

It views social capital as the interpersonal wealth of the individuals and community, explains the concepts of cementing, bridging and connecting social capital and deals with the topic of a caring community and solidarity in families as basic resources of mutual help.
