The book advocates a human rights-based approach to older people, believing that older people are best served by instruments based on human rights systems to ensure a dignified life, the ability to make decisions for themselves and to participate in decisions about the state of society, and protection when it is needed (e.g. in the context of health care or social security). Such systems exist today both within international law, both at the universal and regional level, and within the legal systems of individual states, including the Czech Republic. The publication pays attention to all these systems, which should be understood as complementary.
