Michelangelo Buonarrotti began his apprenticeship as a sculptor in the Florentine gardens of Lorenzo the Magnificent. However, his painting work is equal to the sculptural work, namely David, the Vatican Pieta, Moses, the Night or other Pietas: the frescoes Creation of the World and Man on the vault of the Sistine Chapel represent the high Renaissance and the Last Judgment on its altar wall initiates mannerism.
