The term amyloidosis refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by deposition of misfolded and undegradable proteinaceous material with typical staining properties. Skin is involved in both systemic and localized form of amyloidosis, primary and/or secondary.
Amyloid types relevant for cutaneous pathology include amyloid derived from keratin, serum A amyloid, immunoglobulin light chains, β2microglobulin, and transthyretin. The review presents current knowledge about these diseases.
